HO-scale EMD SD40 Locomotive in Chesapeake & Ohio livery is a detailed HO model designed to faithfully reproduce the 3,000-horsepower SD40 from the mid-1960s. Prototype-inspired features include LED lighting, photo-etched windshield wipers, separately applied wire grab irons and air tanks, curved radiator fan grab irons, coupler cut levers, rubber MU hoses, see-through cab windows, and a detailed 4,000-gallon fuel tank. The locomotive rides on Flexicoil-C trucks with precise gearing for smooth, quiet operation and features finely molded handrails and an injection-molded body for a realistic silhouette, plus a frame-mounted bell and an exhaust stack. It is designed for both DC and DCC operation and is DCC-ready with Quick Plug plug-and-play technology and a 21-pin NEM connector, using RP25-contoured wheels for reliable performance on common HO tracks. A minimum turning radius of 18 inches is recommended, with 22 inches preferred for best clearance on tighter curves.

SOUND-EQUIPPED variants add an onboard DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Econami sound and a compact speaker, delivering engine, horn and bell sounds that operate in both DC and DCC. In DC, some functions are limited, while DCC unlocks the full range of features and CV adjustments allow fine tuning of performance and sound.
