HO SD40 Locomotive is a detailed HO-scale model of the EMD SD40 diesel locomotive, designed to bring authentic prototype power to a model railroad layout. It combines precise detailing with smooth running, giving hobbyists a reliable platform for both DC and DCC operation.

Highlights include LED lighting, photo-etched windshield wipers, separately applied grab irons and air tanks, see-through cab windows, and a realistic, injection-molded body. The drive uses Flexicoil-C trucks with applicable brake cylinders, McHenry scale knuckle Couplers (Kadee compatible), and RP25-profile wheels for dependable track performance. It is DCC-ready with Quick Plug technology and a 21-pin NEM connector for easy decoder upgrades, powered by an improved 5-pole skew-wound motor with flywheels. Sound-equipped versions add an onboard DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Econami, a single cube speaker, and engine, horn, and bell sounds that operate in both DC and DCC, with NMRA-compatible function control in DCC. It runs on layouts with minimum 18-inch curves (22-inch recommended) and supports MU lashups for realistic multi-unit operation.
