HO SD40 Locomotive with DCC and Sound is a detailed HO-scale diesel model designed to bring authentic freight power to model railroads. This version includes an onboard DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Econami sound and a single cube speaker, delivering engine, horn, and bell audio that works in both DC and DCC. It’s DCC-ready with Quick Plug plug-and-play technology using a 21-pin NEM connector for simple installation, and it features LED lighting, see-through cab windows, photo-etched windshield wipers, separately applied grab irons and air tanks, a detailed 4000-gallon fuel tank, and a finely molded injection-molded body. The drivetrain uses a 5-pole skew-wound motor with flywheels and a multi-link drivetrain for smooth, quiet operation, while all-wheel electrical pickup and RP25 wheel contours help it track well on a wide range of HO track. McHenry scale knuckle couplers are included and are compatible with Kadee couplers for realistic coupling.

Sound-equipped versions add on-board DCC sound that provides engine, horn, and bell audio on DC and DCC layouts, with NMRA-compatible functions in DCC mode. The model offers excellent low-speed operation and supports multiple-unit lashups with the lead unit’s horn, bell, and lights, with CVs adjustable to tailor performance (CV chart included). Minimum radius is 18 inches, with a 22-inch radius recommended to accommodate the model’s length and detailed features on curves.
