This HO-scale Thrall high-side gondola with load is a detailed freight car designed to replicate mid-century coal-hauling service. It features a removable load and a wealth of exterior detail—wire and plastic handrails, stirrup steps, ladders, and underbody components—along with separately applied brake gear including a brake wheel, air reservoir, and brake cylinder. The model rolls on 100-ton trucks with 36-inch wheels and RP25 contours for compatibility with all popular HO track brands, and uses McHenry scale knuckle couplers for realistic operation. The injection-molded body is weighted to provide dependable performance on layouts with tight curves, and the minimum radius is 18 inches, making it suitable for compact spaces.

Primed for grime models, the car captures the in-service look with faded base colors matched to the prototype and provides a perfect starting point for adding grime, rust, and weathering. Historically, Thrall was a leading builder of specialized freight cars, including high-side gondolas and rotary-dump coal cars, and in the 1980s expanded through acquisitions to become the largest U.S. producer of such cars.
