HO Bethgon Coalporter with Load, UP #2 (ATH81605)

BethGon Coalporter with Load, Union Pacific #2 is an HO-scale coal car designed to add authentic capacity to coal-hauling trains on a model railroad. This detailed release features a newly re-tooled body, separately applied wire-form grab irons and etched metal coupler platforms, a separately applied brake wheel, and body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers. It rolls on 36-inch machined metal wheels with RP25 contours, is weighted for smooth handling, and comes painted and decorated with realistic road markings, with multiple road numbers available and a minimum radius of 18 inches to fit a wide range of layouts.

The Coalporter was developed to deliver higher capacity and efficiency in coal service. Built by Bethlehem Steel’s Johnstown American Corporation, this “Bathtub” car uses all-aluminum construction and a trough-style bottom for added carrying capacity and a lower center of gravity for better tracking. Coalporters typically run in solid unit trains, and this model captures that role; one end of the car features a rotary coupler to allow a train to pass through a rotary unloader without uncoupling, a detail that enhances realistic loading and unloading scenes on HO layouts.
