HO Old Time 2-8-0 Locomotive SOU #723 (ATH84984)

HO Scale Old Time 2-8-0 Locomotive, Southern Railway #723, is a detailed, ready-to-run steam locomotive designed to anchor an HO-scale freight roster. It features see-through cab windows, wire-form details, a smoke stack, and a boiler-mounted bell, complemented by bi-directional LED lighting that keeps the headlight bright in either direction. Powered by a robust five-pole motor with precision-machined flywheels and a multi-link drive, it delivers smooth, quiet operation, while all-wheel drive and precise gears ensure steady performance and reliable electrical pickup. The heavy die-cast frame adds traction and pulling power, with McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers for easy coupling. With a DCC-ready 21-pin plug and nickel-plated, blackened machined wheels with RP25 contours, it rolls on most HO track and arrives fully assembled, painted, and decorated for realism. It is built for HO layouts with an 18-inch minimum radius and is best on 22-inch curves or larger.

Sound-equipped versions feature an onboard DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Ecomani sound; the sound unit operates in both DC and DCC modes, with full DCC functionality when in DCC mode. All functions are NMRA-compatible in DCC mode, delivering precise slow-speed control. You can program a multi-unit lashup with the lead unit's horn, bell, and lights, and many functions are adjustable via CV changes (CV chart included). The locomotive reflects the classic 2-8-0 wheel arrangement—two leading wheels on one axle, eight driving wheels on four axles, and no trailing wheels—representing a heavyweight freight locomotive first introduced in 1866 and renowned for starting and hauling heavy loads, a workhorse of freight service through the early 20th century.
