HO Old Time 2-8-0 Locomotive V&T #30 (ATH84986)

HO-scale Old Time 2-8-0 Locomotive, V&T No. 30, is a finely detailed, ready-to-run model that captures the look of a classic steam freight engine. It features see-through cab windows, separately applied wire-form details, a smoke stack, and a boiler-mounted bell, with bi-directional LED lighting that stays bright in both directions. The drivetrain uses a heavy die-cast frame and a 5-pole motor with precision flywheels and a multi-link drive for smooth, quiet operation. All-wheel drive with precise gears and electrical pickup delivers dependable pulling power, while McHenry scale-knuckle couplers and nickel-plated, blackened machined wheels with RP25 contours ensure reliable performance on most HO track. Finished with authentic paint and decoration on a highly detailed injection-molded body, the model is DCC-ready with a 21-pin plug for easy decoder installation. Minimum radius is 18 inches, with 22 inches recommended for best results.

Some versions include onboard DCC sound with a SoundTraxx Ecomani system that runs on both DC and DCC, providing full DCC functionality and precise slow-speed control. They support multiple-unit lashups with a lead unit horn, bell, and lights, and many features can be adjusted via CV changes, with a CV chart included in the box. The 2-8-0 wheel arrangement — two leading wheels, eight driving wheels — is a classic heavy-freight layout known for traction and the ability to haul heavy loads at steady speeds, making this model a compelling centerpiece for HO layouts that value historical accuracy and dependable operation on 18- to 22-inch curves.
