HO SW1000 Locomotive CB&Q #9317 (ATH86745)

HO SW1000 Locomotive CB&Q #9317 (ATH86745)

HO Scale SW1000 Locomotive CB&Q #9317 is a detailed, ready-to-run model of EMD’s SW1000 switcher, designed for HO-layout operation. The real SW1000 was a four-axle diesel switcher built by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division from 1966 to 1972, delivering 1,000 horsepower from a 645E eight-cylinder engine and sharing a frame with the SW1500 for a 44-foot, 8-inch length. In CB&Q service, these units joined yards and industrial tracks before many became part of the Burlington Northern fleet after the 1970 merger. The model captures the prototype with historically accurate touches such as dual winterization windows, a firecracker antenna, and early-style cut levers, presented on a highly detailed injection-molded shell in CB&Q livery. It is fully assembled and ready to run on HO layouts.

On the rails, this locomotive offers authentic operation and scale-detail features. It includes LED lighting and lit ground lights for realistic yard scenes. Power comes from an improved five-pole skew-wound motor with flywheels and all-wheel drive for smooth, quiet performance, with DCC-ready variants featuring a 21-pin plug for plug-and-play digital control. Sound-equipped versions use Tsunami2 decoders and cube speakers for engine, horn, and bell sounds. Other refinements include separately applied grab irons, see-through radiator grilles and cab windows, McHenry scale knuckle couplers (Kadee compatible), and RP25 wheels that run reliably on most HO track. With an 18-inch minimum radius, this CB&Q SW1000 is built to perform in yards, sidings, and light mainline work, delivering a faithful, ready-to-operate representation of a classic EMD switcher.
