HO SD45T-2 Locomotive Southern Pacific #9338 (ATH86869)

HO Scale Southern Pacific SD45T-2 Locomotive, No. 9338, is a highly detailed model designed for HO-scale railroading and display. Based on the SP Tunnel Motor design, this six-axle diesel-electric captures the look and feel of the original, featuring a full front headlight package with cab gyralight that operates in DCC, an “L” window cab, roof air conditioning and bell, a Nathan P-3 horn, and the large front plow plus rear anticlimber that give it a distinctive profile on the layout. The real SD45T-2 was built to haul heavy freight through tunnels and over steep grades, with cooler intake air designed to reduce engine overheating in confined spaces.

On the layout, the model delivers authentic detail and modern control options. It includes fine-scale handrails, etched windshield wipers, separately applied air tanks, LED lighting, and see-through cab windows, along with durable, highly detailed bodywork and RP25-contour wheels with nickel-plated machined rims. It is DCC-ready with a 21-pin NEM plug, and the sound-equipped variant features an onboard DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Economi sound, delivering engine, horn, and bell sounds in both DC and DCC operation with smooth slow-speed performance. The SD45T-2 prototype was produced by GM-EMD in the early 1970s as a 3600-horsepower six-axle locomotive, nicknamed the Tunnel Motor for its cooler air intake; HO radii of 18 inches are suitable, with 22 inches recommended for best operation.
