HO SD45T-2 Locomotive Southern Pacific #9340 (ATH86870)

HO SD45T-2 Locomotive Southern Pacific #9340 (ATH86870)

HO Scale SD45T-2 Locomotive in Southern Pacific livery, number 9340, is a six-axle diesel-electric designed to haul heavy freight on steep grades. Built by GM-EMD in the early 1970s, the SD45T-2 was SP’s Tunnel Motor, featuring a lowered rear air intake to improve cooling in tunnels and prevent overheating. More than 200 were produced for SP between 1972 and 1975, delivering about 3600 horsepower from a 20-cylinder 645-series engine.

On the model, authentic SP details include a full front headlight package with a cab gyralight (operates in DCC mode), an L-window cab, roof A/C and bell, and a Nathan P-3 horn, along with large front and rear plows and a robust anticlimber. The highly detailed injection-molded body features fine-scale handrails, see-through cab windows, LED lighting, photo-etched windshield wipers, and separately applied air tanks. It rides on an all-wheel-drive drivetrain with a 5-pole motor for smooth operation; DCC-ready with a 21-pin NEM plug, and available in sound-equipped versions with onboard SoundTraxx Economi sound, operable in both DC and DCC with NMRA-compatible functions. Wheels are RP25-contoured and nickel-plated with McHenry scale knuckle couplers, and the model is designed for HO layouts with an 18-inch minimum radius (22 inches recommended).
