HO SD45T-2 Locomotive Southern Pacific Speed Letter #9335 (ATH86872)

An HO-scale Southern Pacific SD45T-2 locomotive finished in the Speed Letter scheme and numbered 9335, designed to faithfully reproduce SP’s rugged tunnel-motor for model railroads. The model captures the six-axle diesel’s distinctive silhouette with a nose headlight, the standard late Dash-2 cab (with or without the "L" window as prototypes dictate), a roof-mounted air conditioner and bell, and the Nathan P-3 horn on the long hood. Walkway ditch lights, a large front plow, and an anticlimber complete the exterior, while the 1990s Speed Letter repaint reflects SP’s updated look after earlier lighting features were changed.

Beyond the exterior, the SD45T-2 showcases scale-accurate craftsmanship and performance: fine-scale handrails, photo-etched windshield wipers, separately applied air tanks, LED lighting, and see-through cab windows with detailed radiator grilles. The model rides on nickel-plated, RP25-contoured wheels with an all-wheel-drive chassis, powered by a 5-pole motor with flywheels for smooth, quiet operation. It is DCC-ready with 21-pin NEM Quick Plug technology and available with onboard SoundTraxx Economi sound, delivering engine, horn, and bell sounds in both DC and DCC modes with full NMRA compatibility. The prototype’s 20-cylinder 645-series engine produces 3,600 horsepower, earning the SD45T-2 the nickname “Tunnel Motor” for its cooling-air intake design; the model is built for HO layouts with an 18-inch minimum radius and a 22-inch recommended radius for optimal performance and clearance.
