HO SD40 Locomotive Kansas City Southern (ATH87228)

This HO scale Kansas City Southern SD40 locomotive is a fully assembled, ready-to-run model designed for realistic freight operations on standard HO layouts. It reproduces the late-1970s KCS look with authentic detailing and dependable, hobby-grade performance out of the box.

It features a highly detailed injection-molded body, see-through dynamic brake, radiator fans and cab windows, along with Chessie/KCS-style rock plows and a larger dynamic brake housing. The model rides on Flexicoil-C trucks with RP25 wheels, uses McHenry scale knuckle couplers, and includes a 4,000-gallon fuel tank with separately applied air tanks. A newly designed, more powerful and quieter can motor drives the unit, while bi-directional LED lighting provides realistic illumination. DCC-ready Quick Plug offers easy digital setup, and sound-equipped versions include a Tsunami2 decoder with dual cube speakers that operate in both DC and DCC (all functions NMRA-compatible in DCC). It’s built for smooth low-speed operation and reliable current pickup on layouts, with a minimum 18" radius and 22" radius recommended for optimal performance.
