HO Auto-Max Carrier is a meticulously detailed HO-scale model of Gunderson's Auto-Max articulated auto rack, designed for realistic operation on modern model railroads. The model faithfully reproduces the real car’s distinctive features, including separately applied ladders, brake rigging, stirrups, and handbrake details, a corrugated roof, and full articulation with a flexible diaphragm. It features safety striping, 70-ton roller-bearing trucks, and 33-inch machined metal wheels with RP25 contours, all finished in faithful decoration and livery. The injection-molded body is crisp and durable, with body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers and thoughtful weighting to ensure reliable coupling and smooth running on a wide range of layouts, with a minimum radius of 22 inches for smooth curves.

Prototype background and usage: In 1999, Gunderson began producing the Auto-Max articulated auto rack, a long, tall car capable of carrying 22 SUVs on three internal ramps. On HO layouts, this model captures that scale and capability, making it ideal for intermodal scenes and heavy-haul operations. Its rugged construction, precise detailing, and authentic markings provide a striking centerpiece for displays or operating sessions as cars traverse yards, interchanges, and curves with believable articulation.
