HO Auto-Max Carrier BNSF / Wedge (ATH96198)

An HO-scale replica of the Auto-Max articulated auto rack carrier in BNSF livery, designed for realistic intermodal scenes on a model railroad. This detailed model captures the car’s distinctive triple-deck design and its imposing profile, letting you depict long, high-capacity vehicle transport on your layout.

Carefully modeled details include separately applied ladders, brake rigging, stirrups, and handbrake details, a simulated corrugated roof, and full articulation with a flexible diaphragm for natural movement through curves. Safety striping, 70-ton roller bearing trucks, 33-inch machined metal wheels with RP25 contours, and a weighted chassis help the carrier run smoothly and track reliably. Body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers provide authentic coupling, while an injection-molded, highly detailed body is painted and printed for realistic decoration. The minimum turning radius is 22 inches, allowing operation on a wide range of HO layouts. In prototype service, the Auto-Max debuted in 1999 and could carry up to 22 SUVs on three internal ramps, reaching more than 140 feet in length and about 20 feet tall from the rail, illustrating its imposing role in intermodal transport.
