HO Auto-Max Carrier WRWK #68163 (ATH96250)

This HO-scale model recreates the Gunderson Auto-Max Carrier, an articulated auto rack designed to haul vehicles on a railroad layout. It captures the car's distinctive detailing and operation, including separately applied ladders, brake rigging, stirrups and handbrake details, a simulated corrugated roof, full articulation with a flexible diaphragm, and safety striping. The model rides on 70-ton roller-bearing trucks with 33-inch machined metal wheels in RP25 contours, and uses body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers. The injection-molded body is highly detailed, and the finish is painted and printed for realistic decoration. It can negotiate curves as tight as a 22-inch radius for smooth operation on most HO layouts.

Prototype background: In 1999, Gunderson began producing the Auto-Max articulated auto rack car, a long and tall design capable of carrying 22 SUVs on three internal ramps. Measuring over 140 feet in length and about 20 feet tall from the railhead, the Auto-Max pushed the operational and clearance limits of the railroad industry. This HO model faithfully captures that presence and capability for automotive and intermodal layouts.
