Introduced in 1995, the EMD SD90MAC was designed to be the most powerful single-engine diesel locomotive that EMD had ever produced, initially featuring a 6000 horsepower 265H prime mover. However, due to technical issues, initial deliveries were made with a less powerful 4300 horsepower EMD 710G engine.
