HO Scale 57-foot Mechanical Reefer from Fruit Growers Express is a ready-to-run HO freight car that faithfully reproduces a mid-20th-century mechanical refrigerator car. Scaled from prototype drawings and field measurements, it captures the car’s proportions, detailing, and the variation seen in repaints by road number, making it easy to build a believable roster on a layout.

From the detail-packed exterior to the well-implemented underframe, the model delivers realism: a highly detailed injection-molded body, see-through end screens, end platforms, inner bulkhead, factory end ladders and door closures, two exhaust stack styles, and full underframe detail. It rides on 100-ton roller bearing trucks with rotating bearing caps and machined RP25 wheels, and it’s weighted for smooth operation. Features such as trainline hoses with silver ends, three different coupler cut lever styles, and the option for body-mounted or truck-mounted brakes reproduce prototype variations, while McHenry scale knuckle couplers ensure reliable handling. Ready to run straight from the box, the model is painted and printed to prototypical realism, with repaints varying by road number. Sound-equipped versions feature authentic audio recorded from the actual reefer unit, with cycling sounds and volume adjustable on the sound board; a grime-ready variant provides a weathered “In Service” look as a starting point for additional weathering. Minimum operating radius is 18 inches, with 22 inches recommended for best performance.
