HO-scale 57-foot Fruit Growers Express mechanical reefer with SoundTraxx provides a highly detailed, ready-to-run model of a postwar mechanical refrigerator car. Based on prototype drawings and field measurements, it reproduces the smooth-side body, see-through end screens and inner bulkhead, plus full underframe detail such as brake gear, reservoirs and a fuel tank. Factory features include end ladders, door closure rods, see-through end platforms, and two exhaust-stack styles (straight pipe with flapper or T-shaped smokejack) to match era variations. It rides on 100-ton roller-bearing trucks with RP25 wheels and uses McHenry knuckle couplers; it’s weighted for reliable operation and fits HO layouts with a minimum 18-inch radius (22 inches recommended).

Sound-equipped versions deliver authentic audio recorded from a real reefer unit, with sound cycling on and off and volume adjustable for layout power. A Primed for grime option recreates the ‘In Service’ look with faded base colors, offering a perfect starting point for adding rust and weathering.
