HO GEN 57' FGE Mechanical Reefer with Sound (ATHG-1131)

An HO scale 57-foot mechanical reefer model based on Fruit Growers Express equipment, designed to faithfully reproduce mid-century refrigerated freight cars on HO layouts. This ready-to-run car is scaled from prototype drawings and field measurements and can be ordered with onboard SoundTraxx sound. Details include see-through protective screens on the ends, end-wall corrugation visible from inside, an inner refrigerator bulkhead, see-through end platforms, and a fully detailed underframe with brake gear and piping. Sound-equipped versions feature audio recorded from the actual reefer unit, with sound that cycles on and off and volume adjustable on the sound board to provide a realistic operating ambience.

Fully assembled and ready to operate, the car rides on 100-ton roller bearing trucks with machined RP25 wheels and is weighted for stable running. Factory-applied end ladders and door closure rods, trainline hoses with silver ends, and multiple prototype-accurate details (including two exhaust stack styles) enhance realism. It supports either body-mounted or truck-mounted brakes, uses McHenry scale knuckle couplers, and includes three styles of coupler cut levers to match appropriate configurations. With a minimum layout radius of 18 inches (22 inches recommended) it fits a broad range of HO layouts, and its grime-ready finish provides a natural starting point for weathering to match a specific era.
