HO GEN 57' FGE Mechanical Reefer with Sound (ATHG-1135)

HO-scale 57-foot Fruit Growers Express mechanical reefer is a ready-to-run model designed to faithfully reproduce a postwar mechanical refrigeration car in HO scale. Based on prototype drawings and field measurements, it captures era-specific details such as see-through end screens, end platforms, visible end-wall corrugation, and an inner refrigerator bulkhead, with two exhaust-stack styles (straight pipe with flapper or T-shaped “smokejack”). A sound-equipped version adds onboard SoundTraxx audio that can cycle on and off for realistic operation on the layout.

The model emphasizes a fully detailed underframe with Keystone cushioning, air-brake components, control valve, brake cylinders and plumbing, and a fuel tank, plus factory end ladders and door-closure rods. It features a highly detailed injection-molded body on machined RP25 wheels and 100-ton roller-bearing trucks, with options for body-mounted or truck-mounted brakes, three coupler cut-lever styles, trainline hoses with silver ends, and McHenry scale knuckle couplers. It is fully assembled and weighted for smooth running, suitable for layouts with as little as an 18" radius (22" recommended). A grime-ready variant provides a starting point for weathering to replicate “In Service” equipment.
