N ACF 2970 Covered Hopper DRGW #15996/15997/15999 (ATHG-1289)

The N ACF 2970 Covered Hopper is a detailed model representing the DRGW #15996/15997/15999. This two-bay covered hopper first entered service in the 1950s and was designed to handle denser bulk commodities like cement and sand. The model features a photo-etched metal roof walk, detailed outlets, and either round or trough hatches, giving it an authentic appearance. Additionally, it includes a separately applied brake cylinder, valve, and air reservoir complete with brake plumbing.

For enhanced realism, the car is fitted with body-mounted McHenry® operating scale knuckle couplers and machined metal wheels. The model is also fitted with screw-mounted trucks and is weighted to ensure optimum performance. Riders will appreciate that the car operates on a minimum radius of 9¾ inches, making it suitable for various layouts. The Primed for Grime feature allows for a duplicated look and feel of equipment in service, with faded base colors that closely match the prototype, making this model a perfect starting point for adding grime and rust for a weathered effect.
