HO GP18 Locomotive NW #949 (ATHG-1360)

HO GP18 Locomotive NW #949 is a highly detailed HO-scale diesel switcher designed to faithfully reproduce EMD’s GP18 for model railroad layouts. This prototype-inspired model captures the long-hood-forward profile with a see‑through cab and full interior, a heavy die-cast frame for traction, etched details, and scale handrails, all engineered for smooth, quiet operation on HO track. It uses a Genesis driveline with a 5-pole skew-wound motor, all-wheel drive with reliable electrical pickup, and body-mounted scale knuckle couplers that are compatible with Kadee. The design is DCC-ready with Quick Plug plug-and-play technology and a 21-pin NEM connector, allowing easy operation on DC or DCC layouts and straightforward multi-unit lashups with constant LED lighting for steady headlight brightness in either direction.

Across road-name variants, this GP18 line offers authentic schemes and road-specific details such as dynamic or non-dynamic braking, hood-mounted bells, footboards on the pilots, and a 1700-gallon fuel tank, with features like roof access hatches on non-dynamic units. The NW version is presented in Pelver blue with the “hamburger” logo, along with CNW, CCT, MSRC, NEGS, SBC and SOU options that incorporate period-correct paint and lettering. For sound-equipped versions, an onboard DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Tsunami2 delivers engine, horn, and bell sounds via dual cube speakers, with full DCC functionality and NMRA compatibility; a CV chart is included to tailor performance and lashups across multiple units.
