HO ACF4600 Covered Hopper Model (ATHG-1525)

HO-scale ACF 4600 Covered Hopper model captures the iconic 3-bay Center Flow design used for grain and bulk commodities. Introduced in the mid-1960s by American Car and Foundry, these cars carried grain, corn and other bulk loads. The rounded Center Flow body provides structural strength while simplifying gravity unloading by eliminating the traditional center sill, and this version represents the common 4600 cubic-foot capacity designed to fit within tighter clearances for light branchline and industrial service.

Three body styles reproduce early, mid and late variants, with round or trough hatches, a photo-etched roofwalk, and separately applied wire grab irons, stirrup steps, and brake hardware. The model rides on screw-mounted trucks with body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers and is weighted for smooth operation. Genesis 100-ton trucks with 36-inch machined metal wheels and animated spinning roller bearing caps add realism, while accurate painting and printing enhance the in-service look. A primed-for-grime finish provides a realistic starting point for weathering and rust, making it ideal for HO-scale grain trains and other bulk-cargo scenes on layouts that reproduce modern-era operations with tighter clearances.
