HO ICC Cupola Caboose KOG #1541 (ATHG-1946)

An HO-scale ICC Cupola Caboose from Athearn Genesis, shown in KO&G road-number 1541 configuration, is a faithful reproduction of a mid-century cupola caboose. Built in 1952 as ICC job No 104, these steel cars introduced real upgrades over older wooden options, featuring leaf-spring swing-motion trucks, Apex roofwalks, four bunk beds, a conductor’s desk, and a 40-gallon water tank. The model captures these details with prototypical lettering and paint, making it a credible centerpiece for KO&G-era yards or branch-line scenes on an HO layout.

From the box, the caboose is ready to run and loaded with scale-detail features: a highly detailed injection-molded body, see-through end platforms and steps, etched window screens, wire-form grab irons, and a fully realized underframe with air-brake components. It rolls on machined metal RP25 wheels and is weighted for steady operation on standard HO track, with a minimum 18-inch radius recommended. Road-number variations exist, such as numbers 12245, 13233, and 13245, each with distinct detailing like roof walks and ladders. Lighting is included in the Lights version as LED interior and marker lights with brightness control, and the sound-equipped variants add an on-board DCC decoder for operation in both DCC and DC with lighting controllable in DCC, delivering authentic prototypical realism across era-specific configurations.
