HO-scale GP39-2 Phase I Diesel Locomotive in Union Pacific livery. This Athearn model faithfully recreates the GP39-2 four-axle road switcher from UP's Phase I era, giving HO layout operators a ready-to-run representation of a mid-1970s UP freight power unit.

Under the shell, UP 2738 benefits from a Genesis driveline with a five-pole motor for smooth, quiet operation, a heavy die-cast frame for traction, and all-wheel drive for steady performance. It includes see-through cab windows with a full cab interior, fine-scale Celcon handrails, etched metal details, and LED lighting for a realistic look. Wheels use RP25 contours for compatibility with popular HO track, and body-mounted scale knuckle couplers are Kadee-compatible for prototypical coupling. DCC-ready with a 21-pin NEM connector makes adding digital control quick, while the minimum 18-inch radius ensures it will perform on most standard HO layouts.
