Athearn Genesis 4-8-8-4 Big Boy steam locomotive, a ready-to-run scale model of Union Pacific's iconic 4-8-8-4, arrives in a Primed For Grime finish that reproduces an in-service appearance. This Big Boy captures the power and presence of the Overland Route’s legendary freight locomotives, providing a striking centerpiece for any layout and a natural starting point for weathering to reflect daily service.

Designed for solid performance, the model features a heavy die-cast frame for traction and a smooth drivetrain, along with detailed components such as the boiler backhead, individually applied piping, see-through running boards and cab, and body-mounted knuckle couplers for authentic operation. Some versions include an onboard DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Tsunami2 sound for chuff, whistle, and bell effects and full DCC functionality, while others run on DC. Directional headlights stay bright in both directions, and the model is built to run on standard hobby track with a minimum radius of about 11 inches.
