HO ACF 4600 3-Bay Center Flow Hopper Model (ATHG15441)

HO-scale ACF 4600 3-Bay Center-Flow Covered Hopper is a faithful model of the mid-1960s grain-hauling car built by American Car and Foundry. The center-flow design uses a rounded body to provide structural strength and gravity unloading, eliminating the traditional center sill. The 4600 cubic-foot version was widely used for grain and bulk loads, making it a familiar sight on light branch lines and industrial service.

Fully assembled and ready to run, the model arrives with accurate painting and printing and a highly detailed injection-molded body. Three body styles are included—Early with a high-side ladder and brake wheel, Mid with a lower brake wheel and ladders at both ends, and Late with double side stiffeners (post-1971)—as well as round or trough hatches, a photo-etched roofwalk, and separately applied wire grab irons and stirrup steps. Brake fittings include a separate brake cylinder, valve, and air reservoir with wire brake plumbing and multiple road numbers for fleet variety. The car rides on Genesis 100-ton trucks with 36-inch machined metal wheels and animated spinning roller bearing caps, uses screw-mounted trucks and body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers, and is weighted for smoother operation on real layouts. It’s a compelling addition for grain trains and other bulk-commodity service on an HO layout.
