HO-scale Pennsylvania Railroad F3A Locomotive, PRR #9531A, is a faithful HO-model reproduction of a late-1940s EMD F3A diesel designed for modern model railroading. This Phase IV variant, produced in late 1948 to early 1949, captures the PRR’s distinctive bulldog nose and authentic detailing, including dynamic brakes, nose and rear lift lugs, dual single-note air horns on the A-unit, back-up lights, train-phone antennas, and a passenger pilot to bring the prototype to life on your layout.

On the layout, the locomotive delivers robust performance and scale realism: a Genesis driveline with a 5-pole motor for smooth, quiet operation, a heavy die-cast frame for traction, and all-wheel drive with RP25-contoured wheels. LED lighting and see-through cab windows with a full interior further enhance authenticity, while body-mounted McHenry scale knuckle couplers (Kadee compatible) ensure reliable operation. The DCC-ready Quick Plug system with a 21-pin NEM connector simplifies decoder upgrades, and the model is prototyped from detailed resources with accurate paint schemes. Minimum radius is 18 inches (22 inches recommended). Sound-equipped variants add a Tsunami2 decoder with dual cube speakers, enabling engine, horn, and bell sounds in DCC mode (some functions limited in DC), with CVs and a chart included for fine-tuning.
