HO SDP40F Locomotive — Southern Railway #7701 is a detailed, ready-to-run HO-scale model that recreates EMD's SDP40F power from the 1970s. This Legendary Liveries release showcases the iconic Southern paint scheme, giving modelers a faithful centerpiece for a classic roster or proto-freelance layout.

Designed for versatile operation on DC or DCC layouts, the model blends period detail with modern performance. It features illuminated ground lights and classification lights, illuminated number boards, an oscillating headlight, and working truck lights, plus front and rear MU hoses and see-through intake grills. The #7701 variant uses a low-profile body with fans and air filters for East Coast service and is built on a stout eight-wheel-drive Genesis chassis with RP25 wheels in a heavy die-cast frame for solid pulling power. It is DCC-ready with Quick Plug and a 21-pin NEM connector and can accommodate SoundTraxx Tsunami2 sound with dual speakers for authentic engine, horn, and bell sounds, while remaining operable on DC. A 4,500-gallon split fuel/water tank (or rebuilt fuel-only tank) and a minimum 18" radius (22" recommended) complete the package for a realistic HO layout experience.
