HO GP50 Norfolk Southern Locomotive (ATHG65823)

HO GP50 Norfolk Southern Locomotive (ATHG65823)

Introducing the HO GP50 Norfolk Southern Locomotive, a detailed HO-scale model that recreates General Motors' GP50 road-switcher in Norfolk Southern livery for ready-to-run layouts. Based on the early-1980s NS units originally built for the Southern Railway, this model captures the distinctive Phase I body with a rounded blower housing and a long-hood-forward profile. It features NS-specific details such as a long-hood-mounted bell, Southern-style five-chime horns on both ends, dual Firecracker antennas, Timken bearing trucks, and large EMD-style plows and ditch lights. Road numbers reflect era NS schemes, including variants with solid or dashed frame stripes and the newer horse-head logo.

Inside the model, you’ll find a full cab interior, see-through cab windows, wire grab irons, etched see-through steps, and a detailed fuel tank. It’s designed to be ready-to-run with a heavy die-cast frame, all-wheel drive and electrical pickup, RP25 wheels, and McHenry scale knuckle couplers (Kadee-compatible). The GP50 is available in non-sound and sound-equipped versions; the latter runs on a DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Tsunami2 and dual speakers for authentic engine, horn, and bell sounds, with full DCC functionality when used in DCC mode. A grime-ready option provides a weathered, in-service look. Prototype notes place the GP50 as a four-axle diesel road-switcher from the early 1980s, powered by a 16-cylinder engine and designed for reliable, detailed operation on HO layouts, with an 18-inch minimum radius (22 inches recommended) for smooth performance.
