HO GP39-2 Locomotive with DCC & Sound, PNWR #2304 (ATHG66361)

HO GP39-2 Locomotive with DCC & Sound, PNWR #2304 (ATHG66361)

HO-scale GP39-2 locomotive with DCC and sound, PNWR 2304, faithfully recreates Portland and Western's mid-1970s GP39-2 in Genesee & Wyoming's Corvallis-era livery. This road-number 2304 features an early Phase 1 body, front and rear ditch lights, illuminated number boards, and the Nathan 3-chime horn. Road-number specific PNWR details include the Genesee & Wyoming corporate scheme “Corvallis,” a white logo on the nose, cab-mounted headlights, a Xenon beacon (active in DCC mode), alternate flashing ditch lights, and a standard bell, delivering a convincing in-service appearance on HO layouts.

Under the hood, the GP39-2 blends performance and detail. It is DCC-ready with Quick Plug 21-pin NEM and supports both DC and DCC operation; sound-equipped versions use a SoundTraxx Tsunami2 decoder with dual cube speakers for lifelike engine and horn sounds. The model uses a Genesis driveline with a 5-pole skew-wound motor, a heavy die-cast frame, and all-wheel drive for smooth, quiet operation, with LED lighting including lit number boards and, where equipped, lit class lights or beacons. See-through cab windows reveal a full interior, while fine-scale Celcon handrails, etched fan grilles, a detailed fuel tank, and Blomberg-M trucks add to the prototype accuracy. It’s described as Primed for grime, providing an authentic starting point for weathering to recreate a well-used locomotive on the railroad.
