This HO-scale PC&F Smooth-Side Boxcar with a ten-foot-six-inch door is a 50-foot insulated boxcar model designed for HO layouts. The Athearn Genesis edition faithfully reproduces the smooth-side panels and door configuration of 1960s PC&F designs, delivering prototype-accurate detail for vintage freight trains.

Feature-wise, it includes separate wire grab irons, etched metal coupler platforms, and an etched roofwalk where applicable, along with full underframe detail such as an air-brake reservoir, control valve, and brake cylinders with plumbing and brake rods. Weighted for steady operation, the model rolls on machined metal wheels with RP25 contours and uses body-mounted McHenry scale double-shelf knuckles couplers. Additional realism comes from lift bars, trainline hoses, brake hoses, and hardware, plus accurate painting and printing on a highly detailed injection-molded body with a cushion underframe and complete brake rigging. The car is designed for HO layouts with a minimum operating radius of 18 inches and a recommended radius of 22 inches for the smoothest running. In prototype service from the 1960s, insulated boxcars like this carried temperature-sensitive cargo such as canned goods, and PC&F-produced designs varied by side-panel construction and door type, a variety reflected in this model.
