HO SD70M Locomotive with DCC & Sound EMDX Maroon and Black (ATHG71221)

An HO-scale SD70M locomotive with DCC and sound in EMDX maroon and black, designed to bring the presence of EMD’s modern demonstrator power to an HO layout. This model includes an onboard DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Tsunami2 sound, delivering authentic engine, horn, and bell effects that run in both DC and DCC modes. The solid maroon and black scheme is complemented by a large front plow, round ditch lights, and a can-style roof antenna to reproduce the prototype’s distinctive silhouette.

The locomotive is built for realism and reliable operation, featuring see-through cab windows with a full interior, fine-scale Celcon handrails, and scale details such as coupler cut levers, MU hoses, lift rings, and walkways. Body-mounted scale knuckle couplers are Kadee-compatible, while a heavy die-cast frame and a 5-pole skew-wound motor with a multi-link drivetrain ensure smooth, quiet pulling power. LED lighting adds to the realistic appearance, and RP25 wheel contours keep it compatible with most HO track. It’s kit-ready for DCC with Quick Plug plug-and-play using a 21-pin NM connector, and CV adjustments let operators tailor performance, with a CV chart included. The model is suitable for layouts requiring an 18-inch minimum radius (22 inches recommended) for optimal operation and steadier runs on curves.
