HO GP38-2 Locomotive with DCC and Sound CWWR #810 (ATHG71838)

HO GP38-2 Locomotive with DCC and Sound CWWR #810 (ATHG71838)

An HO-scale GP38-2 locomotive with DCC and sound, recreating the Chehalis Western Railroad’s #810, this ready‑to‑run model brings a late‑era GP38‑2 to HO layouts. It captures the prototype’s distinctive look with features such as operating class lights and lighted number boards, a Leslie 5‑chime horn, dual Xenon beacons, a weedcutter front plow, a compact fuel tank, a late‑phase body with Q fans, corrugated grilles, and an 88‑inch nose.

Under the hood, the GP38‑2 blends performance with detail: a Genesis driveline with a 5‑pole motor, flywheels, and a multi‑link drivetrain for smooth, quiet operation, plus all‑wheel drive and electrical pickup for reliable pulling power. The model is built on a heavy die‑cast frame and includes see‑through cab windows and a full cab interior, walkways, wipers, lift rings, wire grab irons, sander lines, and scale Celcon handrails. It is DCC‑ready with a Quick Plug 21‑pin NEM connector, and the sound‑equipped version adds an onboard DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Tsunami2, dual cube speakers, and full DCC functionality; the engine, horn, and bell sounds operate in both DC and DCC, with NMRA‑compatible functions and CV adjustments via a CV chart included in the box. MU lashups with a lead unit’s horn, bell, and lights are supported, and the layout‑friendly minimum radius is 18 inches (22 inches recommended). GP38‑2s were a common, robust replacement for older diesels starting in the early 1970s, making this a faithful homage to a classic locomotive on modern HO layouts.
