HO NSC 6400 Gondola DEAX #11388 Plastic Model (ATHG76714)

An HO-scale replica of National Steel Car’s NSC 6400 gondola, this model recreates a modern 69-foot plate-C open-top freight car built for bulk and scrap-metal service. Part of the Genesis line from Athearn, it captures nine build variations spanning 2006 to today, with multiple body styles, end treatments, top chords, and ladder configurations to mirror the prototype fleet.

The detail-packed model rides on Genesis roller bearing trucks with animated bearing caps, uses metal grab irons, etched crossover platforms where applicable, and accurate brake piping in metal and plastic. It is weighted to NMRA standards for reliable operation and features body-mounted McHenry lower-shelf couplers for smooth coupling. Designed for HO layouts with minimum radii of 22 inches (24 inches recommended), it faithfully conveys the heft and bulk-hauling character of these cars, which on the prototype were often loaded and unloaded by a crane with an electromagnet.
