HO-scale NSC 6400 gondola car is a detailed model reproducing National Steel Car’s 6400-cubic-foot capacity, 69-foot plate-C open-top gondola. These cars are typically used in scrap-metal service, with loading and unloading often performed by a crane equipped with an electromagnet. Part of the Athearn Genesis line, this model faithfully captures the prototype’s rugged, modern look for an authentic North American HO-scale roster.

From the Genesis lineup, the model offers nine build variations spanning 2006 to today, with multiple body styles, end variations, top chords, ladders, and other detailing. Fine features include metal grab irons, etched crossover platforms, and accurate brake piping in metal and plastic. It rides on Genesis roller bearing trucks with animated bearing caps and is weighted to NMRA standards for reliable operation. Body-mounted lower-shelf couplers are included, and the model is designed for minimum radii of 22 inches, with 24 inches recommended for best performance on typical layouts.
