HO-scale NSC 6400 Gondola Car from the Athearn Genesis line adds a detailed, prototype-accurate open-top freight car to a modern HO roster. Based on the National Steel Car 6400-cu-ft capacity gondolas introduced in 2006 for scrap-metal service, these 69-foot plate-C cars feature fixed sides and fixed ends with a solid bottom. The model faithfully reproduces those design cues, delivering realistic operation on North American layouts.

From nine build variations spanning 2006 to the present to multiple body styles, end variations, top chords, and ladder configurations, the gondola mirrors the real-life NSC 6400 fleet. It includes full brake rigging with metal and plastic components, metal grab irons, and etched crossover platforms where applicable, plus Genesis roller bearing trucks with animated bearing caps. Weighted to NMRA standards for reliable operation and equipped with body-mounted McHenry lower-shelf couplers, it is designed for HO layouts with a minimum radius of 22 inches and a recommended 24 inches for smooth curves and yard operations.
