With fixed sides and ends and a solid bottom, this car is designed for realistic operation on modern freight layouts and to enhance a contemporary roster with authentic, in‑service look.

Powered by Genesis tooling, the model captures nine distinct builds from 2006 to today, along with multiple body styles, end variations, top‑chord details, and ladder configurations. It features full brake rigging in metal and plastic, metal grab irons, etched crossover platforms where applicable, and Genesis roller bearing trucks with animated bearing caps, plus body‑mounted McHenry lower‑shelf couplers. Weighted to NMRA standards for reliable operation, it is intended to run smoothly on typical hobby curves, with a minimum 22‑inch radius and 24‑inch radius recommended. In prototype service, NSC 6400 gondolas carried scrap metal and were commonly loaded by crane with electromagnets, a level of detail reflected in this model to help build a convincing modern NSC roster.
