Based on National Steel Car's 6,400 cu ft gondolas introduced in 2006, the Athearn Genesis model reproduces nine build variations, a range of body styles, end variations, and top-chord variations, plus ladder configurations, metal grab irons, and etched crossover platforms. It features accurate brake piping in metal and plastic, and rides on newly-tooled Barber S-2-E 100-ton trucks with animated bearing caps and printed road numbers. The model includes a removable scrap load and is weighted to NMRA standards for reliable operation. Body-mounted McHenry lower-shelf couplers are used, and the minimum radius is 22 inches with a recommended 24 inches for smooth operation.
