HO NSC 6400 Gondola with Cover, CIGX #801872 (ATHG76729)

HO-Scale NSC 6400 Gondola with Cover is a faithful reproduction of National Steel Car’s modern 6,400-cubic-foot capacity gondola for HO-scale layouts, now offered with a protective cover to match its prototype appearance. This model, part of the Athearn Genesis lineup, captures the car’s proportions and detailing to support realistic modern freight operations on a home railroad.

From 2006 onward, nine build variations are represented, including multiple body styles, end variations, top chords, and ladder configurations, with metal grab irons, etched crossover platforms where applicable, and accurate brake piping. It rides on newly-tooled Barber S-2-E 100-ton trucks with animated bearing caps and printed road numbers, and is weighted to NMRA standards for reliable operation. Body-mounted McHenry lower-shelf couplers enable smooth coupling, and the car is sized for 22-inch minimum radii (24 inches recommended) to negotiate curves confidently. A removable scrap load is included for non-covered versions.
