HO NSC 6400 Gondola with Scrap Load (ATHG76736)

An HO-scale NSC 6400 Gondola with Scrap Load, part of the Athearn Genesis lineup, reproduces National Steel Car’s modern 6,400-cubic-foot gondolas introduced in 2006. It’s designed for HO layouts to add a precise, prototypical silhouette and a realistic sense of a contemporary freight roster.

Inside, the car offers nine build variations along with multiple body styles, end variations, and top-chord and ladder configurations to mirror the prototype's variety. It features full brake rigging in metal and plastic, metal grab irons, etched crossover platforms, and newly-tooled Barber S-2-E 100-ton trucks with animated bearing caps and printed road numbers. A removable scrap load is included for non-covered versions, and the car is weighted to NMRA standards for reliable operation; body-mounted McHenry lower-shelf couplers help ensure smooth coupling through curves. It is designed for layouts with a minimum 22-inch radius, with 24-inch radii recommended for best performance.
