HO FCA VersaCoil Gondola (ATHG77009)

HO VersaCoil Gondola is a detailed HO-scale coil-car designed to reproduce the versatile VersaCoil design used for carrying steel coils. Its transverse trough arrangement holds coils from 30 to 72 feet in a secure, easy-to-load configuration, improving loading, unloading, and coil protection during operations. Phase 1 bodies are hoodless, while Phase 2 bodies feature removable hoods for added prototype realism, and the model includes separate wireform grab irons and etched metal coupler platforms for authentic operation.

The model rides on 100-ton roller bearing trucks with rotating bearing caps and includes a full set of added details, such as coupler lift bars, trainline hoses, brake hoses and hardware. Machined metal wheels with RP25 contours ensure smooth operation on common HO track, while body-mounted McHenry scale knuckle couplers provide prototypical coupling. The car is weighted for stable running, with a minimum recommended radius of 18 inches and 22 inches for best results. Added features include removable coils, detailed underbodies, etched platforms, rubber train-line hoses, coupler cut levers, and metal grab irons, reflecting the VersaCoil lineage that traces back to Johnstown America and FreightCar America as a proven coil-car solution.
