HO GP9 Locomotive C&O #6168 (ATHG82268)

HO GP9 Locomotive C&O #6168 (ATHG82268)

The HO GP9 Locomotive, C&O #6168 is a highly detailed and faithfully reproduced model of one of the key locomotives used by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway. This locomotive features a short hood mounted bell and a forward 5-chime horn, crucial for its operation on the rails. The presence of dynamic brakes as well as tall exhaust covers adds to its realistic appearance and functionality.

Manufactured during the years between 1955 and 1957, C&O acquired a total of 363 GP9 units, which became the backbone of their fleet. These locomotives served effectively on both road trains as well as in local service, demonstrating versatile capabilities. The mid-60s saw a new simplified paint scheme adopted by C&O, which prominently featured large initials on the long hood. Despite newer, higher horsepower models beginning to take over, many GP9s continued to operate into the mid-80s, providing ample opportunity for modelers to capture these historic vehicles in their layouts.

This model is equipped with detailed features that include a full cab interior, wire grab irons, and flexible rubber trainline hoses. It is designed with Bi-directional constant LED lighting to ensure a consistent headlight brightness. The locomotive has a heavy die-cast frame, allowing for greater traction, and operates quietly due to its precision machined flywheels and multi-link drivetrain. For those looking for a sound-equipped model, it includes an onboard DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Tsunami2 sound, enhancing the authenticity of the experience.
