HO 4-6-6-4 D&RGW #3803 with DCC and Sound (ATHG98976)

Denver & Rio Grande Western 4-6-6-4 Challenger No. 3803 is an HO-scale steam locomotive built to reproduce wartime-era motive power on a model railroad. This DCC-equipped model with sound recreates the iconic Challenger with a coal burner and dual smokestacks, and it features illuminated number boards and headlights to mirror the prototype's appearance. The unit reflects the 1944–1946 period when Challengers were built to Union Pacific specifications.

On the layout, it delivers authentic operation with dual cube speakers for rich sound, a flickering firebox behind a see-through door, and brighter headlight illumination. The model includes a robust loco-to-tender connection harness and current pickup on all wheels, plus finely detailed parts such as a brass-painted bell and whistle, piping, valves, steps, and more. It runs on both DC and DCC, with full DCC functions, engine and bell sounds, and NMRA-compatible control; many functions are adjustable via CVs (CV chart included). A front coupler pocket accepts an operating coupler, and the pivoting front and rear engines help negotiate tight 18-inch radius curves, with a 22-inch minimum radius recommended for smooth operation.
