NSC 6400 Gondola with Load, HO scale — a faithful HO model of National Steel Car’s 6,400 cubic-foot capacity gondola. Represented in the Athearn Genesis line, this model reproduces the prototype’s details with separately applied metal grab irons, etched crossover platforms where applicable, accurate brake piping in metal and plastic, bent wire cut levers, rubber train-line hoses, and a removable scrap load. It rides on screw-mounted 100-ton roller bearing trucks and uses body-mounted McHenry lower-shelf knuckle couplers. The injection-molded body is highly detailed and precisely painted, with weight added to promote stable, realistic operation on the layout.

Designed for modern HO rosters, this gondola is built to run on a wide range of track brands and curves. It features machined metal wheels with RP25 contours, a weighted chassis for dependable tracking, and the included removable load to enhance yard, interchange, or scrap operation scenes. It’s compatible with standard HO radii, capable of navigating curves as tight as 11 inches, with 15 inches recommended for best performance and appearance.
