NSC 6400 Gondola with Load is a highly detailed freight car model that recreates National Steel Car’s 6,400 cubic-foot capacity gondola, including a removable scrap load for realistic loading scenes. It features separately applied metal grab irons, etched crossover platforms, and accurate brake piping, along with bent-wire coupler cut levers and rubber train-line hoses. The model rides on screw-mounted 100-ton roller bearing trucks, uses body-mounted McHenry lower-shelf knuckle couplers, and rolls on machined metal wheels with RP25 contours for a convincing, prototypical appearance.

Painted and printed for prototypical realism, the car has a highly detailed injection-molded body and is weighted for steady performance on standard track. It is designed to run on all popular brands of track, with a minimum radius of 11 inches and a recommended radius of 15 inches to ensure smooth curves on typical layouts. Based on the NSC 6400 gondolas introduced by National Steel Car in 2006, this rendition captures the prototype’s variations and detailing, including full brake rigging and etched crossover platforms, to add authenticity to a modern freight-car roster.
