N NSC 6400 Gondola with Load Model (ATHGN12586)

Introducing the N NSC 6400 Gondola with Load, a meticulously detailed model freight car designed to faithfully reproduce National Steel Car’s 6,400-cubic-foot gondola. This version includes a removable scrap load and a host of realism-minded details, from separately applied metal grab irons and etched crossover platforms to accurate brake piping in metal and plastic. Bent-wire coupler cut levers and rubber train-line hoses further enhance operation, while screw-mounted 100-ton roller bearing trucks and machined metal wheels with RP25 contours ensure smooth running on layout track. The injection-molded, highly detailed body is finished with prototypical paint and lettering and the car is weighted for stable handling. It’s designed to work on most popular brands of track and accommodates a minimum radius of 11 inches (15 inches recommended) for reliable operation.

Prototype background and build notes: National Steel Car began producing these 6,400-cubic-foot gondolas in 2006, and this model captures the range of details and variations seen on the real cars. The tooling reproduces multiple top-chord and end variations and includes full brake rigging, grab irons, and etched crossover platforms. With a removable load and accurate paint, this car offers a highly realistic representation of a modern NSC gondola for adding authentic character to a freight roster.
