NSC 6400 Gondola with Load is a highly detailed model freight car designed to replicate National Steel Car’s 6,400-cubic-foot capacity gondola. This Athearn Genesis model captures the prototype’s scale and features, including separately applied metal grab irons, etched crossover platforms, and accurate brake piping with both metal and plastic components. A removable scrap load adds realism, and the injection-molded body, along with careful painting and printing, delivers a prototypical appearance.

Built for reliable operation on model railroads, the car rides on screw-mounted 100-ton roller-bearing trucks and uses body-mounted McHenry lower-shelf knuckle couplers. It rolls on machined metal wheels with RP25 contours and is weighted for stable performance on most track brands. Detailing includes rubber train-line hoses and true-to-life brake rigging, with a minimum curve radius of 11 inches and a recommended radius of 15 inches to ensure smooth operation and an authentic look on curves.
