VersaCoil Gondola Car in Canadian Pacific livery (N scale) is a detailed model of the versatile VersaCoil coil car, designed to carry coils from 30' to 72' in a transverse trough for safer, more efficient loading and unloading on a model railroad. The car rides on screw-mounted 100-ton roller-bearing trucks, uses body-mounted lower-shelf knuckle couplers, and features machined RP25 wheels for a prototypical look and smooth operation on most popular track brands. Phase variations affect hood configuration, with Phase 1 bodies without hoods and Phase 2 bodies offering removable hoods to match prototype fleets.

Designed to replicate the real VersaCoil family, the model captures how the trough design improves loading efficiency and reduces edge damage during handling. The rendition reproduces four of the five VersaCoil phases, including detailed underbodies, etched metal platforms, rubber train-line hoses, coupler cut levers, and metal grab irons. Removable coil loads are included for realism, and the overall design reflects the Johnstown America Corporation’s original coil-car concept (later FreightCar America), delivering a sturdy, realistic model that runs well on a wide range of layouts.
