The N-scale VersaCoil Gondola Car is a detailed model that reproduces the versatile VersaCoil coil gondola used on North American railroads. In real service, VersaCoil cars carry coils of various sizes in easy-to-load transverse troughs, a design that speeds loading and protects the coils from damage. This version reflects prototype variations, with Phase 1 bodies without hoods and Phase 2 bodies featuring removable hoods for added realism and interchangeability on layouts.

The model features screw-mounted 100-ton roller-bearing trucks, body-mounted McHenry knuckle couplers, and machined metal wheels with RP25 contours. The injection-molded body is carefully painted for prototypical realism, and the car is weighted for steady on-layout performance. It runs on all popular brands of track, with a minimum radius of 11 inches and a recommended radius of 15 inches. Fine-scale details such as etched metal platforms, rubber train-line hoses, coupler levers, and metal grab irons enhance realism, while Phase 2 versions include removable hoods to mirror the prototype.
